BSL Training Academy is an approved Training and Assessment Centre dedicated to offering training programmes to the highest standard. Our courses offer candidates the opportunity to learn and develop their skills within a safe and encouraging environment.

Entry Requirements

There are no requirements for Level 1 Award in British Sign Language

Course Times – Choose ONE

Group ONE: Monday 18th September 2017 – Monday 25th June 2018: 32 sessions,
4.30pm – 6.30pm



Group TWO: Monday 18th September 2017 – Monday 25th June 2018: 32 sessions,
7.00pm – 9.00pm


To enable candidates to communicate with Deaf people in BSL about familiar, day to day topics and activities.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course candidates should be able to:

  • Identify and use simple, commonly used expressions, question forms and conventions associated with BSL
  • Request and provide information appropriate to the context
  • Give and follow simple directions or instructions in BSL
  • Articulate (pronounce) the language clearly enough so that a sympathetic native user of the language would understand questions and contributions.


The qualification is divided into 3 units. After each unit there will be a face-to-face assessment of skills learned.

Course Fee: £99 only!
Unit BSL101 Assessment Fee: £25
Unit BSL102 Assessment Fee: £40
Unit BSL103 Assessment Fee: £40

Total: £204.00 per person for Level One Certificate in British Sign Language and Units’ Assessments.

If you are 16 or under the cost of assessments will be discouted by 25%. Proof of age will be required.

If you are parent of Deaf child/ren, the cost of the course will be discounted by 25%.
