BSL Training Academy is an approved Training and Assessment Centre dedicated to offering training programmes to the highest standard. We have an excellent team of qualified Deaf and hearing professionals who, with their expert knowledge and experience are consistently able to ensure candidates achieve their goals year after year.
This diploma course aims for interpreters to focus on the portfolio only after completing the IDC (Interpreter Development Course) where this leads them through the NVQ6 evidence collection and Portfolio Building.
By the end of the course, those interpreters who complete their portfolio will hold a NVQ Diploma in Sign Language Interpreting and be eligible to qualify as a NVQ6 Sign Language Interpreter.
At BSL Training Academy we offer 18 x 3 hour seminars at our Training Centre. Our course offers candidates the opportunity to learn and develop their skills within a safe and encouraging environment. In our commitment to offering high quality courses we ensure that group sizes are limited thus allowing candidates to gain from working and learning in a small group situation.
The course will lead candidates through the process of Interpreting, current research and theories and the application of these in the working environment. Candidates will also be closely guided through evidence collection and the portfolio building process.
We value the experience that each candidate brings to the course and, as such, encourage discussion and sharing of experiences to enhance learning.
To be awarded a Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Sign Language Interpreting candidates must achieve five units in total (four mandatory units and one optional) in order to be awarded the full qualification. Candidates will provide proof of their interpreting competence against the National Occupational Standards by compiling a portfolio of evidence covering the five chosen units.
